At 30 years old, I had to endure one of the most difficult times in my life. Six days after my 30th birthday, I was in a car accident (rear-ended by what I later found out to be a drunk driver) in Nicholasville, Ky, on my way to work. At the time of my accident, I was hysterical. At the time of my accident, I was transported to the University of Kentucky ER, with a concussion, and some pain in my right shoulder, neck and back. I saw my family doctor a week later and I was advised to see a chiropractor, and a massage therapist. We do not live in Fayette County, but recently found ourselves in dire need of good representation there, AND very quickly. Our twenty-something son, who is a Dean’s List college kid about to graduate, made a huge mistake in judgment one night. After drinking too much at a bar with a buddy, got into the car and drove. Haley Prevatt is the best person I know! Not only is she a fantastic attorney but she is a wonderful friend. A little over a year ago I found myself in a situation I could never have seen coming. I was charged with Burglary 2nd degree, a class C felony, and was facing 5 to 10 years behind bars. I am your average everyday mother, grandmother, working class citizen and was totally taken off guard by my circumstances. Hiring Haley Prevatt was indeed one of the smartest things I have ever done for me, my daughter and mother. On a Friday evening after my mother and I drove my daughter to a specialist at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, we stopped at a gas station to get gas and as we were leaving and sitting at a stop light getting ready to get on the interstate, I looked at my rear view mirror and a full size truck came right at us and never tried to stop. The guy was highly intoxicated and my car was totalled. This man turned our whole world upside down within seconds. First, we went with a lawyer that we all see on commercials as they make us feel like we can put full confidence in them to get every dime we deserve. Wrong. I will tell you exactly what it is like, an assembly line! They have all these paralegals doing all of their dirty work and will do as little work and investigating as possible. If we would have stayed with them, we would have got probably a fourth of what Haley got us and this is no lie! Haley called me on Saturdays and Sundays asking me questions, which of course I did not mind at all! She was very patient with me, being this was my first injury case ever and these things can take some time. The other attorney would have got it a lot sooner but it would not have been close to the amount that Haley got me because they do not want to do a lot of work and let it drag on very long because it’s costing them money and they do it all like an assembly line. We had insurance adjusters and other attorneys telling us the amount to expect and Haley would not stop at that amount. She and I shot for more and ended up getting almost $5,000 more than we said we would agree on! My mother got almost double that what we expected and my daughter received more than what she expected as well. I was in a rear-end car accident on my way to leave the state for my cousin’s funeral and all my plans were crushed, not to mention the lovely neck and back pain I now had and the many appointments I was about to have to have in order to heal up from the accident. I had known Haley’s parents but did not know they were her parents. We had done lunch with them one day months and months prior to the accident and they said, “Hey if you ever end up needing an attorney, here is the card to an amazing one.” Not thinking much of it and not making the connection, I put the card in my wallet. After the accident I called Haley to see what I should do. I was far too busy to deal with all of this and I was not feeling the greatest given the soft tissue damage in my neck and back. I urgently wanted to get back to living life and feeling good. I knew not to call one of the big law offices you see on television because years earlier I had been in an accident where we were rear-ended while sitting at a stop light at the end of an interstate exit ramp, resulting in serious injuries to our daughter, a broken back, and more.
